"I was bullied all throughout elementary school for being socially awkward and hyperactive. At a young age, I learned to live only for myself and for those that loved me for me.  My childhood anxiety turned into constant productivity as I tried to distance myself from my traumas.  Now, as a young adult, I've not only faced and accepted my traumas, but I have years of hard work behind me to help propel me into the future.  I don't regret suffering, or the isolation I faced, because as terrible as some of my memories are, I will always be able to reach someone else going through hardship, and feel connection where it is most important - heart and spirit."

I.O. Scheffer is an author and editor who graduated from Miami University in 2022

Having done four years of speech and debate, I.O. Scheffer is a proud supporter of open dialogues and challenging one's own views, as well as examining contemporary issues through various perspectives and means - her novels and short stories are no exception.

She has written articles for Miami Quarterly at the Miami State University, many of which focus on mental health or the state of society, and she frequently beta reads for new writers looking to improve their craft.  She was a member of the English honors fraternity Sigma Tau Delta. She likes to attend readings as well as open mics.

Having grown up in Northeast Ohio, she enjoys writing short stories set in her home state, capturing both city and wilderness. She has a background in vocal performance - she sang in the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus for four years - piano and guitar.  I.O. Scheffer likes to highlight the cross sections of different art forms by composing and collecting music related to her works and by creating visual art and merchandise for her book series, Fearghus Academy.
